While "Reason" won out over "Right," some people can thank a "Close Confidant" for that, RFI is still going to release the AMP Special Report as the first part of the "Independence Day" content. That should suffice for more than enough reading for the rest of the weekend, as well as while we prepare the rest.
And, contrary to some rumors circulating, no we're not trying to "ruin" Macworld Expo or make Apple / AAPL.O go into the tank. But, those who..... Forget it. It's not worth it.
In fact, just ick back and relax while you read the AMP Special Report. Enjoy. More's to follow. It might just not be as fast as you want......
RFI has held its peace while the "Pile On" has been going on. Well, in keeping with last year's tradition, we're going to have another "Idependence Day: The 4th of July," where we're going to release to the public content that might not make a lot of people happy. So be it. But, when you're facing a coordinated offensive, sometimes a Strategic and Tactical Response is required. And, there are several factions that want RFI to let loose with the entire arsenal.
If, to settle the disinformation that is being spread about the AMP/vMac, RFI has to release Everything, we will. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. All of it. From the AMP Special Report (the "AMP" and vMac "names" were coined by RFI to describe the box), to the contemporaneous coverage of the "AIO Configuration" (aka: iMac); and we mean Everything on that as well; so be it. No matter. Might as well if we're going to settle this once and for all.
What is "amusing" about all of this is that if it was their intention to "Make Sure a Sleeping Grizzly Stays Asleep By Repeatedly Poking It With a Sharp Stick," then the "Rocket Scientists" who thought that strategy up should have their collective heads examined. If they wanted "The Sleeping Grizzly" to stay asleep, then they went about it the entirely wrong way. If they were concerned about what RFI would and would not publicly say (while RFI was holding its tongue on divers matters), then you don't provoke a response.
Whether RFI decides to "Launch All Weapons" this weekend is still open to debate. And, the decision is not entirely in our hands. What's the time frame? Well, the first release should be on or about the 4th of July. The scope of the content is yet to be determined. Depends on what happens between now and then.
For the record. The AMP Special Report was also called "The Third Installment of the NC Special Reports." The first of which was a compilation of the "NC / Information Appliance Revolution" coverage that RFI started in April '93 and was published in 1995. So, we've been covering this "fabrication" for a very long time.
The clock is ticking.....
Working.....
The whole AMP thing is ridiculous. Steve needs to sent to the Midwest to live as an Ordinary AmericanTM (AKA Joe Six-Pack). The AMP would be low margin, but it would be money that he would otherwise never see, ever! This would grow the marketshare and mindshare for Apple into a realm of people who wouldn't consider getting a "Real Computer" and when they get into using the AMP they just might consider upgrading to said real computer. What will they do when they do that? Buy what they already have software for, buy an Apple branded box. Why sell a sub $1k unit unless you think you'll be able to talk the consumer into trading up to a real machine later?

Who Are "The Heretical MonksTM?"
"The Heretical Monks" are a select group of people who come together in "The Monastery," a "quiet place" where they place puzzle pieces on the table and attempt to put together the picture from the pieces of information, discussion and analysis in an attempt to discern where things are heading. Much like a "Working Group" that gathers and analyzes intelligence and information in order to make sense of it all.
Entrance into "The Monastery" is by invitation only, and it's where "The Monks" can speak freely about all manner of things. And while "The Order" does allow "initiates" (newcomers), it is a selective process. Many inquire and few are chosen.
Those who have inquired about being able to don the robes of "The Heretical MonksTM," need to be patient. Those who have not received an affirmative answer, please do not take offense. It is nothing against you, or your qualifications. It is just that in order to gain entry into "The Monastery," requires an arduous task that also requires a vetting of bona fides, etc., before one is allowed to enter. What is discussed there is extremely sensitive, for the benefit of all.
"Secret Society?" You could call it that. Elitist? Some might call it that. But its entire purpose is to bring some rhyme and reason to the disparate puzzle pieces that "The Monks" possess or acquire. It benefits all who enter in. And, if it were "open and egalitarian," then a lot of what is said there would not be said. It was the necessity for "a quiet place, secreted away from the noise" that led to its foundation.
Why are they discussing this publicly? For the simple fact that the queries necessitated a public response. And yes, "The Monks" know that publicly acknowledging this would generate curiosity. All queries should be directed to "The Monastery." Beyond that, we can go no further.
And as "The Heretical MonksTM" have requested, please do not take offense if your inquiries about gaining entry to "The Order" are not answered in either the affirmative or negative. Many inquire, few are admitted.
The Monks thank you for your patience......
Well, to satisfy the purists who state that the multichromatic Apple logo type is passe, we've posted a "New Monochromatic Mick Apple logo" so we will be "Buzz Lightyear" compliant as we head into iMacWorld NY '98. And, given that we're heading into the countdown to "Infinity & Beyond," we might as well share with the general public the RFI Update from 26 Jun 98. With the trading week over and a new one to start, we're feeling quite giddy.
Yet, there was heated discussion as to whether we should release the material; and not just from inside Echo 4. We were receiving opinions (solicited and unsolicited) as to whether we should release it or not. Well, the "Release It!" faction won out.
Of course, the Apple related material dealt with the "AMP Fabrication" story as well as those rumored 6 PCI Slot G3 boxes that were floated, and popped as they were hauled back in. The "Release It!" faction took umbrage at the fact that they were being called "Fools" and "Dupes."
Well, you can make up your own minds as to whether the AMP/vMac was all an "X-Files Type Conspiracy" to hide the truth of the iMac's existence or not. And as for the 6 PCI Slot G3 Macs, those trial balloons (we later learned) are......
Nope. We're not going to go there. Not at all. Suffice it to say that the update material will speak for itself for the present. But we will comment on the fact that just as Apple's "Server Strategy" doesn't resemble what has been bandied about of late, neither is the ..... Nope. We're not going there. We like living too much.
And, before we get to the material, we'd like to extend a belated acknowledgement of the author of the abstract that was in the Merced, Merced item in the 18 May 98 Update. Pierce T. Wetter III of twinforces.com was the author and was kind enough to let us not only run his abstract in RFI but share it with you as well. He's still willing to discuss the abstract with its critics, so you can e-mail him with your comments and points on the Merced, Merced abstract.
With that housekeeping taken care of, just hit the link and the RFI 26 Jun 98 Update is yours for the reading. In its entirety. Enjoy!
And for those of you desirous of the individual items, pertaining to the AMP Fabrication and 6 PCI Slot G3 Macs, those links will take you to the separate items. But, we warn you, you'll be missing things!
Well, if you want to add your voice to the AMP/vMac Poll on MacOpinion then hit the link, read the column and then vote. It's as simple as that.
And, we'll be releasing some content almost live on Apple Recon later today. It deals with some things that have been bandied about of late. RFI has informed us that "There's Only One Real Gossamer II Box." All the rest are fabrications......
Working.....
Well, we're working on the content posting and the culling is going slow. But here are the first postings....
Well, there it is. Yes, some of the content was edited out, but that was necessary. Our apologies. We gave you as much as we could and as "timely" as we could. And, you'll also see some "pertinent information" vis-a-vis the AMP/vMac is those items, no?
And, now you know why we said what we did this morning about the "MickApple" Logo, etc.
Enjoy!
As always. Working.....
Yes, we'll be posting content today. Some might be wondering why the "Mick Apple Logo" has made a reappearance. Ah, there's the "Mystery." But, why bother spoiling the surprises in store? We're having too much fun seeing the collective "Them" trying to figure out some way to activate their "Windshield Wiper Effect!"
Gee. What was heresy and nonsense just a few short months ago is now being used to generate speculation about What will be happening between Apple, Disney, Pixar, et al.
Working.....

A friend sent us this picture with the speculation that it was the "inspiration" behind the design of the iMac. The similarities are chilling.....
Coincidence? Accident? By Design? The Truth is Out There....
